BRANDEN LESLIE LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN FOR CONSERVATIVE NOMINATION

January 14, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Portage la Prairie – Branden Leslie announced earlier today that he is running to be the next Conservative Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar.

In front of a full room of supporters he also unveiled his campaign slogan: The Right Conservative for Portage-Lisgar, which speaks to his years of experience fighting for Conservative values and ideas.

“I am running to give you back control of your life, ensure you can raise your family according to your values, and to get the Liberals out of your pocket,” said Leslie.

Leslie spoke about how Justin Trudeau has cynically divided Canadians for his own political gain, perhaps no more blatantly than his Liberal government blaming firearms owners for the increase in gang violence, or how they targeted people based on their personal medical decisions.

He went on to outline how the Liberals pit east versus west and rural versus urban.  “Never have Canadians been as divided, as angry, and as anxious as we are today,” said Leslie.  “Instead of uniting Canadians, the Liberals recklessly insult people like you and me, and our way of life. People have had enough. I’ve had enough.”

During his speech, Leslie focused on several key issues of his campaign.  From pledging to scrap the carbon tax, stopping the Liberal gun grab, repealing any fertilizer reduction mandates, to defunding the CBC, he gave Conservative supporters in the room plenty to cheer about.

“I don’t want to sit back and complain about politics. I want to make a difference,” said Leslie. “And I definitely don’t want to watch my home community send the wrong person to Ottawa to be just another empty suit.”

Concluding his speech, Leslie drove home the point that he was ready to be a champion for the riding.  He spoke about fighting for rural communities, rejecting woke fads and getting back to basics.  “The people who call this place home are strong, and  deserve a strong Conservative voice in Parliament.”

Before announcing his campaign, Leslie was the Manager of Policy and Government Relations at the Grain Growers of Canada.  He has been a leading voice pushing back against the Liberal government’s plan to reduce fertilizer use and is the architect of legislation currently before Parliament to exempt farmers from the carbon tax.

Active in the Conservative Party for over a decade, Leslie has advised several MPs and Cabinet Ministers.  He was also the Campaign Manager for the Hon. Candice Bergen in the 2019 election.  He was born in Portage la Prairie and raised on a farm south of town.  He attended Portage Collegiate Institute and went on to Brandon University and Carleton University to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

To vote for the next Conservative Party of Canada candidate in Portage-Lisgar, people must purchase a $15 membership.
